Our Story

Reliable Maintenance Company has been a trusted name in professional commercial janitorial and maintenance services in Des Moines, Iowa, since 1973. As a family-owned company spanning three generations, we have built our reputation through dependable service, hands-on support, and a commitment to helping businesses maintain clean, professional spaces. We understand that every company and facility has different needs, which is why we tailor our services around each customer’s building, schedule, and expectations.

Our primary focus is commercial janitorial cleaning. We provide dependable cleaning solutions for commercial properties, helping keep offices, facilities, and shared spaces clean, comfortable, and ready for business. Our services can include routine office cleaning, restroom and break room cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, window cleaning, and trash removal. With experienced staff and a hands-on approach, we work to provide consistent cleaning while allowing your employees to focus on their work.

Reliable Maintenance Company also specializes in professional carpet cleaning and hard floor care. We provide commercial carpet cleaning using truck-mounted equipment, bonnet cleaning, and portable cleaning systems, along with services such as hot water extraction and spot cleaning. For hard surfaces, our team provides specialized cleaning and maintenance for VCT, Terrazzo, finished concrete, and stone, including floor scrubbing as well as stripping and waxing VCT. These services help businesses maintain clean, attractive flooring while supporting the ongoing care of their facilities.

Beyond cleaning, we provide commercial property management and complementary building maintenance services. Our team can coordinate cleaning and maintenance needs for commercial properties, while larger property managers can benefit from centralized support, consolidated billing, and work order management. We also offer additional services such as general building maintenance, grounds cleaning, and final construction cleaning when needed.

Experience has always been an important part of Reliable Maintenance Company. The business was founded by George McKay in 1973, followed by the growth and expansion of services under the next generation, and today the company continues under third-generation leadership. That history has shaped our commitment to dependable service and lasting customer relationships.

We also believe that quality service starts with quality people. Our personnel receive job-specific training in equipment, supplies, maintenance, and safety procedures, while our management team remains involved in overseeing client properties and maintaining communication with customers. Our approach is built around accountability, individualized service, and making sure the cleaning standards established for each facility are met.

Whether your business needs ongoing commercial janitorial cleaning, professional carpet care, specialized hard floor maintenance, or additional property support, Reliable Maintenance Company brings decades of experience to the job.
